Edward peered his head round the door of the rec-room.
The guard had just made his round, 3rd of the hour, last of the hour, the next was 20 minutes away.
The cctv had three second gaps between photo’s.
He could get out so easily.
Simply dart under that camera there, while the one opposite was off.
Repeat that with the next two sets of cameras, then pop into the janitors closet, wait there for exactly 15 seconds, then hop out the door as it automatically opened for the guard as he passed.
He would be able to crouch in the hedge while the guard walked passed, the man none the wiser to Edward’s presence.
He then would have around 19 minutes before another guard crossed his path.
Edward was small…ish, he could easily hide behind the mid-height bushes that sporadically lined the roads to the front entrance of Arkham.
He’d scratch a ‘?’ onto the sign by the road, the one that said ‘Hitch-hikers may be escaping prisoners’… That would make 7 ‘?’s on it since they last changed the sign.
But… then he’d have to run. He was good at running, he was fast, he’d won a couple of ‘races’ here.
…Which, of course, meant he had got on the nerves of one or two of the other inmates, and had had to run for his life before they could bludgeon his face into a bloody pulp…
Which, of course, was not his fault. It wasn’t his fault they were so stupid, not his fault they lashed out when they didn’t understand his riddles…
So, yes, running.
He’d run two blocks, till he got to that little alcove, a tiny Neanderthal-line that crossed a field, exiting near a café.
He’d go into the café and take one of the coats that hung by the door, no one would notice, it was always busy in there.
After that he wouldn’t have to run; a man in an grey jumpsuit they would be looking for, not a man in a grey jumpsuit and a brightly coloured coat!
…That may sound a little silly, but it was true, more often than not he would have been able to walk straight past Arkham and no one would notice him if he were wearing a bright coloured coat.
He had walked right past commissioner Gordon once, and the man hadn’t batted an eye.
After taking the coat he’d be free to do what he wanted, he’d go and steal a sandwich from that shop with the self scan machine and the attendant who didn’t pay full attention to anything, he couldn’t help wondering why they hadn’t fired her.
He’d walk the short way to his old hideout, probably find some squatter there and have to frighten him away, that wouldn’t be too hard.
He’d just… pull a knife out his arse and go ‘roar I’m a scary monster’ and the drugged up little bunny would run.
After changing into something a little more comfortable, and throwing the coat onto the pile of… 14 or so, that were already there, he’d go out again, get a news paper, see what had been happening while he’d been trapped.
Maybe start planning his next heist?
Or maybe just take that day to himself.
It wouldn’t matter, because he’d be free.
“Oi! Ed! It’s your turn to shuffle!” a voice came to him, breaking him from his thoughts.
He gave a short sigh, and looked back over the rec room, finding his two friends. He gave them a small smile.
“Coming Harv…” he said gently, removing himself from the doorframe, walking over and taking his seat at the tiny round table, picking up the cards and flicking them in his hand.
“So, uh, aces are high, right? Yeah?”
Well come on, logically thinking, what else what he do in his spare time?
I might write something a little longer, I might draw something, I dunno, time will tell.
I didn't finish writing this like two weeks ago but then forget to upload it, why would you suggest such a thing??
